Make a 471 piece origami swan

For the (anal) artist among us.

This tutorial requires only 15 sheets of paper and scissors. Technically, because of the cutting of the paper, this swan is kirigami, not origami. That said, assembling 471 paper triangles into this beautiful swan is the work of angels.

Enjoy.

cool, i'm making one now.

I made my first one into a hat for my mum. The process seems daunting, but once you get past the first 100 triangles, time flies!

good luck, mate!

ITS REALLY AMAZING. I'VE SEEN A LOT OF THEM IN DIFFERENT SHAPES AND I REALLY WONDER HOW IT WAS MADE. THANKS, ITS ONLY IN THIS SITE I GONNA LEARN LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS.....I LOVE DOING CRAFTS, EVERYTHING FROM PAPER TO NEEDLE... MORE POWER TO YOU AND TO THOSE GOD HAVE GIVEN A TALENT...GOD BLESS....MARIZ

The only fault I can find is making the triangles against a white background. It would be perfect against a darker background.

I wanna try! But, it might take me a few weeks or days... cause I'll be busy with homework! (other than homework... I'll be too lazy Lol.) xD

how big is it when the swan is done??

My copy measures about 10 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter.

how many pieces of paper do you cut up in the end?

um, sorry this is a late comment, but (if at all possible) can you pet a few more closeups on, cuz i don't get how the triangles are arranged...

It was amazing. I made one and gifted it to someone on Valentine. She just loved it. Thank you for this lovely peice of work.

This is awesome. I haven't made it yet, but it is on my to do list. Thanks for the upload.

WOW! HELL THIS IS AWESOME! I AM SOOOO GONNA MAKE ONE. WHEN I FIND THE TIME (almost never)

I have started my one now
But i think im gonna run outta paper :)

I cant wait to try this , I do wish it were on a dark background so you can see how the first step is done better , But i don't mean that as a complaint , Thanks so much for posting this ,,

Amazing! But i think it takes some time, doesn't it?

Just finished mine a couple of minutes ago. I made mine at 1/8th of a regular printer paper so it's larger than this one.
Measures about 20 cm high and 10cm wide.

A problem I ran into was that it lost the roundness in the process of attaching new triangles, but this was fixed by just pressing everything a bit harder and adding some supporting triangles which made it blend a lot better. It also made it a bit more compact.

Overall I folded triangles for about 3 days (5 hours a day) while watching tv and chatting on msn. The actuall assembly took about 2 hours since I had some mishaps.

I hope this information helps. :)

this looks awesome but it is #$%@ing complicated to see hou you have to put in the triangles

oke it wasn`t that hard after all only lots of work

well, i need paper! I'm soooo gonna try this!

hey man iv already made one from this vid. really well done btw but i have a question. do u know how to make the dragon one? cos iv been searching the web for one but cant find one and i noticed from the pictures of it that there made from the same little triangles, if you know how to make them please e-mail me with the info at broonyfraescotland@hotmail.com thanx

i ade one using 1000 peices...well roughy 1000.basically its just 4 times the size and very hard to move.

Keep the base in the 30's. It's the easiest to work with so try 60(nearly 3k pieces) then 90. Then when you're bored do what i'm doing and make a person instead. You can make nearly anything

i thought this would be easy but its not, i wasted a lot of paper trying to make it
