How to Make a Paper Plane That Flies Far: The Super Arrow

White Super Arrow paper airplane with tapered wings lies against black background, sharp nose emphasizing long-distance flight design.

If your paper airplanes usually nosedive or stall, the Super Arrow is your fix.

Designed for distance and stability, this high-performance paper plane flies far — and it looks sharp doing it. It's a refined version of the classic Arrow model, with added nose weight and smart shaping that improve glide and control.

In this tutorial from Tri Dang, you'll learn how to fold the Super Arrow step by step using a single sheet of letter or A4 paper. The model is easy enough for beginners but delivers the flight performance of a more advanced design.

🎥 Watch the full video below to follow along with the folds and see how to launch it properly.

What you'll need

Before you begin folding, grab the right materials:

Step-by-step folding guide

Take your time with the folds — symmetry matters for flight.

  1. Create the center crease: Fold the paper in half lengthwise, crease sharply, then unfold.

  2. Fold both top edges to the center: Bring the top corners in to form a triangle. Flip and repeat to reinforce the symmetry.

  3. Refold the top edges downward: Fold each side toward the center again, slightly below the original fold line. This starts to shape the nose.

  4. Add diagonal folds for shaping: Make small diagonal creases near the top to add structure without bulking the tip. Repeat on both sides.

  5. Form a pointy nose: Use the existing creases to fold the top into a pointed shape. A triangle flap locks it all down.

  6. Fold in half (lengthwise): Carefully fold the plane in half with the nose on the outside.

  7. Shape the wings: Fold each side down to form wide, flat wings with about 1 inch of body remaining below the wing line.

  8. Add elevators for lift: Fold up small rear flaps (wingtips) to help the plane gain lift and prevent nosediving.

How to launch for maximum distance

The Super Arrow works best when launched upward at a 30–40 degree angle with a firm but smooth throw. Hold it just behind the nose where the front edges intersect. Avoid flicking the wrist — a level release gives the best glide path.
